Dear Hiller Families,
It’s hard to believe that December is here! We are now well into our second card marking and excited to continue to focus on supporting your child academically and with their leadership skills at Hiller. We had an amazing turnout for parent/teacher conferences in November. Thank you for your support! If you were unable to attend your scheduled conference I encourage you to touch base with your child’s teacher to hear about your child’s progress so far this year.
Our first PAWS (Positively Awesome Wildcat Students) Time event at Hiller was very successful. The students enjoyed meeting in their multi-age PAWS groups to learn about Habit 2: Begin With The End In Mind. We look forward to our next PAWS time, which will take place on January 12th right after our All School Assembly. Thank you for all of your support with our Canned Food Drive. We have collected 860 cans so far and the Canned Food Drive will continue through December 9th. Our school goal is to collect 1,900 cans. We appreciate your generosity in helping families in need during the holiday season! We will be having a “Positive Post-It Note and Give a Heart” day on December 2nd at our school. Our students will be filling each other’s Emotional Bank Accounts during this day by writing compliments to each other. The students love our “Positive Post-It Note and Give a Heart” day, and it makes all of us happy at Hiller! ☺
We have many fun events coming up during the month of December! Please read below and see the attached calendar for some important information, and event updates regarding our school for the month of December.
The Leader In Me
During the month of December we will be focusing on Habit 3 which is to “Put First Things First”. We will be talking with the students about thinking about and implementing the following statements to support living by this habit:
I spend my time on things that are most important. This means I say no to things I know I should not do. I set priorities, make a schedule, and follow my plan. I am disciplined and organized.
Please encourage your child to use these habits at home and use the statements above to remind them about applying their 7 Habits outside of school as well as inside of school.
Our Holiday Concert is scheduled for next week on Tuesday, December 6th at 7:00 PM at Lamphere High School for grades 1-5. Students in first through fifth grade should arrive at 6:30 PM at Lamphere High School in the cafeteria. Our staff will remain with the students to help them to get on the stage for their performance, so that you can head to the auditorium to watch the concert. Please note that our staff will not be available to watch the students until 6:30 PM that evening, and the doors to the auditorium will not open until shortly after this time. During the morning of the 6th we will be taking buses over to Lamphere High School to practice for the concert. We will leave at 8:45 AM for the practice.
Winter Reminders/School Hours
As the temperature is getting colder outside please remember to dress your child appropriately for the winter weather. They should come to school with boots, hats, gloves, snow pants, and winter jackets. The students do go outside for recess unless the temperature is below 20 degrees outside or 10 degrees or less with the wind chill factor. Also, please remember that even in the winter our doors open at 8:15 AM for students to enter our school. We love our students and care about their safety, so please do not drop your child off at our front entrance prior to this time. We do have some special events before school such as 5th grade band that occur prior to this time. The students who are involved in these special groups will be allowed to come in when their event or job begins. Thank you for your help in keeping our students safe.
Parking Lot/Traffic Safety Reminders
Please remember to drive cautiously through our school parking lot. Please do not leave your car parked in front of the Kindergarten doors or along the side fence area. This creates an unsafe situation for our children. Also, please make sure not to double park on Delton. Double parking and dropping off our students in the street and between cars is also an unsafe situation. Additionally, please respect our amazing neighbors and do not block their driveways during our dismissal time. Remember that the buses drop off our students in the front of the school. Please avoid parking in the circle drive in front of Hiller so that the buses can safely pick up our students. We all need to work together to help keep our students safe during our drop-off and pick-up times. Thank you!
We always welcome volunteers in our school. Please contact your child’s teacher to find out ways that you can volunteer at our school. Don’t forget if you are planning to volunteer in any way (i.e. attending field trips, helping with classroom parties, etc.) please fill out a background check prior to volunteering. Thank you!
We are looking forward to an incredible month of December! Please review the attached calendar for the month of December highlighting important school events. Please feel free to call me with any questions or concerns that you may have about your child at (248) 589-0406.
