April 2018

April 10, 2018

Dear Hiller Families,

We have had many exciting things happening at our school over the last month! We had several special readers come to our school during March is Reading Month to share some amazing books, and talk about the importance of reading with our students. Also, we raised $1,190.04 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society! Thank you so much for your generosity and “Synergy” in supporting such an important organization. Our first Hiller International Family Night was a huge success. Thank you to our Parent Spotlight Team for putting on this spectacular event! Additionally, thank you for your continued positive support for our school, and for taking the time to support your child’s academic growth at home on a daily basis.

Please read below for some important information regarding our school:

The Leader In Me

During the month of April we will be focusing on Habit 6 which is “Synergize”. We will be talking with the students about thinking about and implementing the following statements to support living by this habit:

  • I value other people’s strengths and learn from them.
  • I get along well with others, even people who are different from me.
  • I work well in groups.
  • I seek out other people’s ideas because I know that by teaming with others, we can create better solutions than what any one of us could alone.

Please encourage your child to use these habits at home, and use the statements above to remind them about applying their 7 Habits outside of school as well as inside of school.

Report Cards

This is a friendly reminder that your child’s report card for the third card marking will be made available to you on Friday, April 13th at 9 AM.

School Hours

Please remember that our doors open at 8:15 AM for students to enter our school. We love our students and care about their safety, so please do not drop your child off at our front entrance prior to this time. We do have some special events before school such as 5th grade band that occur prior to this time. The students who are involved in these special groups will be allowed to come in when their event or job begins. Thank you for your help in keeping our students safe.

Volunteers

We always welcome volunteers in our school.  Don’t forget if you are planning to volunteer (i.e. attending field trips, helping with classroom parties, etc.) please fill out a background check prior to volunteering. Thank you!

Parking Lot/Traffic Safety Reminders

Please remember to drive cautiously through our school parking lot! Please do not park in the circle drop off area near our Kindergarten doors. There are many parking spaces available in the back. Please do not leave your car parked in front of the Kindergarten doors or along the side fence area. This creates an unsafe situation for our children. Also, please make sure not to double park on Delton. Double parking and dropping off our students in the street and between cars is also an unsafe situation. Additionally, please respect our amazing neighbors and do not block their driveways during our dismissal time. Remember that the buses drop off our students in the front of the school. Please avoid parking in the circle drive in front of Hiller so that the buses can safely pick up our students. We all need to work together to help keep our students safe during our drop-off and pick-up times. Thank you!

We are looking forward to an incredible month of April!  Please review the attached calendar for the month of April highlighting important school events. Don’t forget to follow our school on Twitter by following @hillerwildcats. Please feel free to call me with any questions or concerns that you may have about your child at (248) 589-0406.

Educationally yours,

Jen Cumiskey, Principal
